GWS fan-powered islander
by Tom Gaskin

Technical details are :-

Built and kitted-out as per GWS instructions (bought as a package from SMC)
Only deviation from kit is in the colour scheme. This is to represent the original full-size prototype, converted at Shoreham in the late '70s, using 'Dowty ducted propulsors' (ducted fans driven by original engines - just like Pims' Gnat!)

Quote from website www.gloster.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/archive/fans.htm
"They feature the Dowty-Rotol Islander fitted with a "ducted propulsor", and appropriately registered G-FANS. First flown by Sqn Leader Neville Duke from Shoreham on 10th June 1977, the aircraft could occasionally be seen at Staverton".

Flies for about 4 minutes on a 9.6V 720mA NiMH pack, I fly it regularly in my local park (gives the loose dogs somthing to chase) and will loop & stall-turn OK - I haven't got the ailerons powerfull enough to roll with confidence (yet!)

Registration & logos' created on computer and then stuck onto model using a 'pritt stick'. Decoration is acrylic paint and marker pen.
