The BMFA Open Scale
Day 16/08/2009
The BMFA through Dave Knott had asked the SRFC if it would be possible to host an Open Scale Event at Coombes.
Besides experienced scale modellers, the event was open to SRFC members to
offer them an opportunity to "dip their toes" into scale competition flying and
"rub shoulders" with the experienced comp flyers. Below are some pictures of
this well-attended event with many of our members watching the excellent models
and skilful flying on this
sunny, but very windy day.

The winning entry T-28 Trojan from Dave Knott. Both having a
rest after some superb flying. His "evergreen" Hurricane on scramble
into the skies above
Sussex. |

Judging requires constant concentration! A beautiful
Sopwith Snipe with slow fly-past. |

The Snipe on finals in the stiff breeze. (the usual winds
that one can
expect at Coombes!) The Diablo from Len Bryant on fly-past, winning 2nd
place in the event. |

Name of the entrant is sadly unknown, but his Fokker
D VII was very nice and with flying skills to match in the very stiff breeze.
Beautiful Vega Gull starting its take off run. |

Lorne Rumble from the SRFC with his Piper Cub during his first
ever scale competition
reached a very commendable 6th place! The superb Loening LO8A
from Martin Fardell after rotation finished in 3rd place!
